Project Details:
Ahrens Companies proudly served as both the architect of record and builder for the City of Lauderhill’s new Annex Building and Gymnasium—an all-in-one civic facility designed to meet the community’s growing needs for public services and recreational space.
This one-story, 16,409 square foot building now serves as a vital hub for city operations and community engagement. Inside, it houses key municipal departments including the Building Department, Utilities, Civic Center, and a fully equipped Recreation Center with a full-size gymnasium. The space is thoughtfully divided into 5,367 SF of office and administrative space, a 1,448 SF multipurpose room, and a 9,031 SF gymnasium—all tailored for flexibility and long-term use.
Initially, the City of Lauderhill considered a fully CMU (concrete masonry unit) structure for the facility. However, after detailed discussions and value engineering led by Ahrens Companies, the City opted for a hybrid design—combining CMU construction with pre-engineered building system components. This approach provided the durability and performance of masonry with the cost-efficiency, faster erection time, and sustainability benefits of a pre-engineered system.
Working closely with city representatives, Ahrens Companies delivered a facility that met the City of Lauderhill’s full list of functional, aesthetic, and financial goals. The result is a modern, durable, and community-focused building that will serve Lauderhill residents for decades to come.
