St Lucie County 2021 Building Department Highlights

As we made our way through dealing with the effects of the pandemic, this past year has shown lots of progress in the development of St. Lucie County. We at AHRENS COMPANIES are proud to be a part of the growth of St. Lucie County with our involvement in the MRO Hangar at Treasure Coast project pictured above. Take a look at some interesting highlights from the St Lucie County Building Department for 2021.


 

2021 Highlights from the Building Department

 

HIGHLIGHTS

  • • Tyler EnerGov electronic permitting system on schedule for implementation in Spring 2022
  • • Initiated the use of Bluebeam software for electronic building plan review
  • • Expanded the permitting and planning lobby to better serve our customers
  • • Initiated use of virtual inspections
  • • Modified policies and procedures to assist customers and streamline several tasks, including restoration of specific “over the counter” permits such as roofs, A/C, and water heater changeouts
  • • Hired an Assistant Building Official and a Zoning Technician
  • • Utilized outside sources consisting of professional engineers and architects to help us meet customer needs and maintain timeframes for plan review and building inspections
  • • Participated in the Treasure Coast Builders Showcase event on August 20, 2021
  • • Offered training to our staff to keep them up to date on the building code, technology, and F.E.M.A. regulations
  • • The number of inspections increased 17.9% from the previous year. Even with the increased workload, the percentage of inspections rolled over to the following day was 0.21%, which did not change from 2020
  • • 2021 Insurance Services Office, Inc. (ISO) Survey resulted in a Class 3 for 1 and 2 family residential buildings and a Class 2 for commercial buildings. Our grade remained the same as in the 2018 ISO survey.
  • • Building Permit Activity in 2021 increased 24.2% over 2020; and, valuations increased 79.65%
